Tart and Soul Butter Tart Festival returns to Chatham

Chatham-Kent's second annual Tart and Soul Butter Tart Festival promises to be bigger, sweeter, and more soulful.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sons of Kent Brewery on Saturday, June 27. Entry to the festival is free.

More than 3,000 visitors from across the province took part in the inaugural festival last summer.

"The response has been incredible," said festival founder Doug Robbins. "What started as an idea to celebrate Canada's most iconic dessert has grown into a regional event that brings people together through food, community, and a whole lot of butter tart love."

Guests are encouraged to show up early. Last year, some bakers, otherwise known as Tartisans, sold out of their most popular flavours early.

The festival will have vendors and live entertainment and the return of the People's Choice Award.

"We're putting the power where it belongs, in the hands of the people and their taste buds," said Robbins. "Every guest has the opportunity to sample, shop, and vote for their favourite Tartisan. It's democracy, butter tart style."

He adds that on top of the traditional butter tarts there will be plenty of creative flavours as well.

"Whether you're a traditional tart purist or someone who loves creative flavour combinations, there will be something here to satisfy every sweet tooth," Robbins said.
