Sports Briefs - October 27, 2016

The World Series is all tied up at a game apiece.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians for their first win in the World Series in 71 years. Kyle Schwarber drove in two runs and Jake Arrieta carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Chicago topped the Indians 5-1 in Game 2.

Game 3 takes place Friday night in Chicago.

The Toronto Raptors are starting the NBA season on a high note.

DeMar DeRozan scored 21 of his 40 points in a spectacular third quarter to propel Toronto to a 109-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons in the team's season opener.

DeRozan's 40 points broke Vince Carter's Raptors record of 39 points in an opening night game.

In the NHL -- the Montreal Canadiens earned their fifth straight victory with a 3-2 win over the Islanders.

Elsewhere -- the Edmonton Oilers earned their fourth win in five home games, beating Washington 4-1.

And Anaheim scored five goals in the second period to rout Nashville 6-1.

In Junior C hockey -- the Wallaceburg Lakers dropped a 5-2 decision to Amherstburg.

While in Junior B action -- the LaSalle Vipers downed Lambton Shores 10-4.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
