Sports Briefs - October 31, 2016

The World Series is heading back to Cleveland.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Indians 3-2 in Game 5 to stay alive and force a Game 6 tomorrow night.

Cleveland leads the series 3-2.

The Islanders beat the Maple Leafs 5-1. Toronto has lost six straight on the road.

Elsewhere -- the Detroit Red Wings dropped their second straight, falling to Florida 5-2 -- the Calgary Flames lost 3-1 to Washington -- the Winnipeg Jets fell 3-1 to the Sabres -- and the Ottawa Senators blanked the Edmonton Oilers 2-0.

In Junior B hockey -- the Chatham Maroons lost 5-3 to London, ending their 11-game winning streak. Lucas Patton was busy in net for the Maroons, making 51 saves in the loss.

Meanwhile -- the Leamington Flyers doubled up Sarnia 4-2.

In Junior C hockey -- the Wallaceburg Lakers were shutout 5-0 by Amherstburg -- the Dresden Kings lost 9-3 to Lakeshore -- and the Blenheim Blades fell to Essex 4-2.

In the NFL -- Matthew Stafford threw for 240 yards and a touchdown, but the Detroit Lions lost 20-13 to the Texans.

In other football action -- the Buffalo Bills lost 41-25 in New England -- while Washington and Cincinnati played to a 27-27 tie in London, England. That's the second tie in as many weeks after Seattle and Arizona played to a 6-6 draw last week. It's also the first time since 1997 that there have been two ties in the same NFL season.

In the NBA -- the Detroit Pistons have won two straight after getting by Milwaukee 98-83.

And in NASCAR -- Jimmie Johnson won at Martinsville to clinch a spot in next month's title-deciding Sprint Cup finale.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
