Wins Helping Spitfires Cope With Long Trip

The Windsor Spitfires try to make it three straight wins as they play in Barrie Thursday night.

After allowing just three goals in two wins last weekend, Assistant Coach Jerrod Smith says the same defensive effort has to continue against the Colts.

"They're a pretty high-octane offensive team," he explains. "They like to stretch three guys in the neutral zone and things like that, so we have to be aware of that in terms of our defensive game."

The Spitfires have collected at least a point in 14 of their last 15 games.

Tonight's contest is the team's eighth straight on the road, while the FINA World Swimming Championship occupies the WFCU Centre.

Smith says everyone's staying positive about having to board the bus yet again.

"It's nice to get these trips out of the way so that in the new year we have some time to be at home," he describes. "I think the [players] are looking forward to that."

After tonight, five more road games await the Spitfires' on this season-long trip.
