Tokyo's gold medalist nabs silver in Paris

Weightlifter Maude Charron backed up her gold medal with a silver.

In Paris, Charron won her silver medal in the women's 59-kilogram, a different weight class than her gold medal run in Tokyo. When the 31-year-old won in the 2020 Games she participated in the 64-kilogram class, which wasn't included in this year's Olympic program.

Charron made her first successful snatch attempt at 101kg, her second was at 104kg, and her third matched her Canadian record of 106kg.

She was in second place after the snatch portion of the event, trailing China's Luo Shifang who lifted 107kg.

Charron made her first two lifts in the clean and jerk, the first at 126kg and the second at 130kg, which matched her Canadian record in that category.

Her third attempt at 132kg was unsuccessful. She managed to get the barbell to her shoulders for the "clean" but couldn't get it above her head for the "jerk."

Shifang ended up with the gold medal, Chinese Taipei's Kuo Hsing-Chung earned bronze.
