MADD Launches Red Ribbon Campaign

The London chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drunk is launching its 27th annual Red Ribbon Campaign.

The red ribbons will be tied to vehicles across the city, serving as a reminder of the dangers and tragedies associated with impaired driving.

Each year in Canada, 1,250 people die in crashes involving a drunk driver and over 63,000 are injured.

"Every time someone takes the red ribbon and they tie it on to their vehicle they're making a promise to drive sober. If every single one of us did that, we would end the problem of impaired driving," says MADD London Board Member Christine Taleski. "It's very difficult trying to change people's behaviour. It's something that takes a long time and we've been working hard... We need to make sure they're following through on those actions."

Taleski tells BlackburnNews.com the holiday season unfortunately sees a spike in impaired driving.

The red ribbons represent Canada's longest running public awareness campaign.
