Snow Removal Funding Lacking

The City of London only has $1.1-million left in its annual $12.4-million budget for snow removal.

Severe storms from January through March of 2014 forced the city to use the majority of the budget before snow even started to fly this season.

It is possible the city could head into next year's budget already in a deficit position.

"We do have some tools to get us through it, we're never in a position where we would stop providing services. We still have to provide the services, but we'll have to look to 2015 to see how we can manage the shortfall," says Manager of Transportation John Parsons. "We set a budget based on the five-year average."

There is $1.5-million available in an emergency severe weather reserve fund.

The snow removal budget for 2015 will not be determined until council goes through the budget process for the coming year.
