Orchestra Notes on Hold

Any revival of Orchestra London won't happen right away.

On Monday night, councillors asked for more detail surrounding a $300,000 proposal to get professional classical music playing again.

Councillors on the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee voted 11-3 in favour of a motion by  Ward 6 Councillor Phil Squire to wait for more specifics prior to voting on the cash infusion. It will likely be a few weeks before the London Arts Council returns with details on how the money would be spent.

The City of London usually funds Orchestra London to the tune of $500,000 per year. In late 2014, the city denied the crumbling Orchestra $375,000 to stay afloat and pay its musicians. Its failure was blamed on mismanagement while its managers blamed a promised donation that was cancelled.
