Former Fire Chief Gets Five Years

Sarnia's former fire chief has received a five year penitentiary term after being convicted of 33 sex-related offences involving young girls.

Superior Court Justice John Desotti sentenced 56-year old Pat Cayen in a Sarnia courtroom Friday morning.

Cayen was given four years on adult charges and an additional year to be served consecutively on youth charges.

He will be on the sex offender registry for life, can't carry any firearms or ammunition for ten years and is banned for ten years, after release, from any public park or swimming area, daycare or school where children under the age of 16 could be present.

Before being led out of the courtroom in custody, Cayen kissed his wife. There were comments of "bye-bye" from the area of the courtroom where victims had gathered for the sentencing.

Justice Desotti told the court he's well aware of the likelihood of an appeal.

Cayen was initially charged in November 2012. His employment with the Sarnia fire department was terminated in January 2013.
