$500K Invested In Hospital Simulation Training

The TD Bank Group is making a $500,000 donation in support of London Health Sciences Centre’s Women’s and Children’s Simulation Training Program.

The donation will help create a dedicated physical space for the program, which is currently housed in temporary space at LHSC’s Victoria Hospital.

The state-of-the-art centre will allow for optimal simulation research and training, and includes realistically replicating clinical settings, enabling filming and providing dedicated debriefing rooms.  The centre will also enable participants to observe their behaviours during a simulated crisis situation, to assess team performance and to identify opportunities for improvement.

“Simulation training improves real-world communication, collaboration, teamwork and crisis management in the delivery room, clinic and operating room,” says Emily Williams, LHSC’s director of Women’s Care, in a media release. “These dynamics are extremely important when we are providing acute care to the most vulnerable patient populations – including neonatal and obstetrical patients.”

The Women’s and Children’s Simulation Training Program was introduced in 2011 using high and low fidelity mannequins, to represent different patient groups. The program trains LHSC personnel as well as clinical teams from community hospitals across the region.
