Police Reveal Details Of New Contract

Members of the London Police Service will get a 4.8% raise over the next four years.

The London Police Services Board and the London Police Association agreed on the new contract earlier this week.

The agreement is retroactive to January 1 of 2015 and expires on December 31 of 2018.

A 1st class constable will get a 1.95% wage hike this year and a 0.95% increase for the next three years, bringing their base salary from $91,975 to $94, 621.

A 1st class constable is a described as a police college graduate with at least four years experience.

The wage increases are on top of what is called a "Market Value Adjustment." That means the salary will be adjusted to match the average salary of a 1st class constable at the eleven largest police services in Ontario.

Other things in the agreement include an improved work-life balance, improved access to professional health services and incentives to improve health and fitness.

It will also now take longer for a new member of the police force to reach the 1st class constable status.

This is one of the smallest wage increases in recent years, with the last contract seeing an over 11% hike.
