Budweiser Gardens Paying Off For City

It was a banner year for Budweiser Gardens in 2014.

A report delivered to the Corporate Services Committee at London city hall on Tuesday shows the downtown arena hosted 155 events last year with $6,901,364 in total income. The city's take was $972,947.

That represents a 60% increase from 2013.

The city's agreement with Global Spectrum, which operates the facility, now sees 70% of net revenue go to London's coffers. In the first five years of what was then known as the John Labatt Centre, the figure was 20%. It was 45% the following five years.

The report also says the city still owes about $15.6-million from the arena's construction. That debt is expected to be paid off by 2023.
