Two London Clinics Offer Government Funded IVF

Two London fertility clinics are among 50 in the province that will now be offering government funded fertility treatments.

The Ontario government released the list of clinics on Monday that will offer, at no cost to patients, one round of in-vitro fertilization (IVF)  per eligible patient.

The LHSC's fertility clinic in Victoria Hospital and Southwestern Ontario Fertility Technologies on Southdale Rd. East will offer the treatment under the province's new Fertility Program.

The provincial government first announced it would invest $50-million a year to expand access to IVF treatments in October. Officials estimate the funding will help support over 5,000 people trying to have children throughout the province each year.

It is estimated that one in six Ontario couples is affected by infertility at some point in their lives.

Those eligible for the treatments include those with medical issues causing infertility and those with non-medical issues, such as single people and same-sex couples.

Patients will still have to pay for fertility-related drugs and storage of embryos.

The province has teamed up with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to ensure the success of the program.
