Mother Not Criminally Responsible For Stabbing Daughter

A London woman who admitted stabbing her six-year-old daughter last fall has been found not criminally responsible.

Jane Sims of the London Free Press reports the 29-year-old woman pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to attempted murder. She was found not criminally responsible because of a mental illness. Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child.

Two psychiatrists diagnosed the woman with psychosis and bipolar disorder.

The woman was arrested at her apartment on Arbour Glen Cres. on the morning of October 22, 2015 after she called 911 to report stabbing her daughter.

The little girl was taken to hospital in critical condition but has since recovered from the attack.

The Crown told the court that, at the time of the stabbing, the woman believed the devil was inside her daughter.

The woman will be sent to a mental health facility for treatment.
