Replica Guns A Danger To The Public

For the third time this year, London police are warning about the dangers of replica guns.

Police say a man found at 181 King St. allegedly pulled what appeared to be a handgun on officers around 10:40am Wednesday. Police told the man to drop the weapon, which he did without further incident.

According to police, the man provided a false name but his true identify was quickly discovered and he was arrested on five outstanding warrants.

The gun was found to be a airsoft gun.

A 20-year-old man is charged with possession of an imitation weapon and public mischief for providing a false name.

Police are reminding the public that even though airsoft guns can be bought without a firearms licence they can easily be mistaken for real firearms. They say precautions should be used when carrying or handling replicas.

In March and April, police issued a similar warning saying all guns, whether real or replicas, can pose a significant threat to the community and officers will treat all weapons as real until determined otherwise.
