Dead, Mutilated Cat Found In Springbank Park

The London Humane Society is looking for answers after a mutilated cat was found in Springbank Park.

A citizen walking in the park discovered the body of a partially skinned cat just off one of the trails on Sunday. The animal's intestines were found piled neatly beside the body.

Executive Director of the London Humane Society Judy Foster says they are concerned the cat may have been tortured to death.

"We are hoping we will be able to discover that through the necropsy, which will be conducted at the University of Guelph," says Foster. "It will depend on a number of factors when they go to do the necropsy but we are hoping we can find out if the animal was alive when it happened."

Foster says the male, neutered cat was likely someone's pet.

"It was neutered so that means it was a domestic pet," says Foster. "The feral cats in London have tipped ears when they do that surgery and this cat's ears are not tipped so we know it was a domestic pet."

The location where the body was left is of particular concern to Foster.

"It was left to be found in an area that is frequented by families and young people," says Foster. "We are grateful that a family didn't find the cat in this situation because it would be very disturbing for a young person. It's disturbing for us."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the London Humane Society or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
