In a celebration of all things Beatles, the London Beatles Festival is returning to the city for its second annual event.
The festival will invade the Forest City once again on September 8-10, and will include performances of The Beatles music by numerous tribute artists in the heart of downtown London. Many local and indie musicians will also perform at venues in the downtown core, and Beatles films, speakers, as well as vendors will be part of the three day event.
"We have many stages, we have many clubs, and we have the streets again [that will be] closed on Dundas and Clearance for the community event," said festival director Paul Rivard. "There are so many acts local and abroad that are coming to be apart of the event."
New additions to the festival in its second year include an audition for youth performers who will participate in a talent showcase at the Wolf Performance Hall. A gala dinner will also be held at the Octopus's Garden, and the festival organizers have put together the first ever international Beatles tribute awards.
"Everyone loves The Beatles and I think it's because The Beatles have touched all of our lives," says London Mayor Matt Brown. "This is the second annual event that's coming up, it's going to be fantastic. It reminds us all that London is a music city."
The London Beatles Festival is partnering with the charities Youth Opportunities Unlimited and Over 55, which will receive a donation of partial proceeds from the festival.
