A Norfolk County man has been charged after a dog was left in a hot vehicle for an extended period of time.
Concerned citizens contacted the Ontario Provincial Police on Friday around 11:57 p.m. after seeing the animal left in the hot vehicle, which was parked at the Walmart on Queensway East in Simcoe.
Officers arrived at the scene and were able to find the owner of the dog.
As a result, police have charged 54-year-old Richard E. Laudon with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle. He was also issued a Provincial Offences Notice.
The OPP is reminding the public to never leave pets unattended in a hot motor vehicle.
"If you see an animal in a vehicle on a warm or humid day who you believe may be in distress, gather as much information as you can. Obtain the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle, and immediately enter the store and have the owner paged and contact police," said Constable Ed Sanchuk in a news release.
