Man, teen charged in knifepoint robberies

A 20-year-old man and a teenager from the Strathroy area have been charged in relation to a pair of armed robberies in St. Thomas.

The first robbery took place at the Mac's Milk on Talbot Street November 4. A lone man walked into the variety store, pulled a knife and demanded money from the clerk . He then took off in a stolen white pickup truck with an undisclosed amount of cash. The pickup was later found abandoned on Chippewa Road in Muncey.

A little over a month later, two males held up the Subway restaurant on the west-end of Talbot Street using a knife. They then took off in a light coloured vehicle with a small amount of cash.

No one was hurt during either robbery.

Security video and witness descriptions of the suspects played a vital role in assisting investigators, St. Thomas police said.

With the help of police from Strathroy-Caradoc, St. Thomas officers were able to arrest two suspects on Thursday in relation to the robberies.

A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from the Strathroy area, are charged with one count each of robbery with a weapon and breaching a court order.

Both were remanded in custody following a court appearance.
