London nurse accused of professional misconduct

A nurse accused of carrying out a sexual relationship with one of her patients at St. Joseph’s Health Care London will go before the College of Nurses of Ontario's disciplinary panel next month.

In a three page notice of hearing, the regulatory body contends the nurse committed professional misconduct when she began a personal relationship that included sexual intercourse with a patient in the fall of 2017.

"You maintained a personal relationship and/or engaged in personal, non-therapeutic contact and/or activity with [the patient] while your therapeutic relationship with [the patient] was ongoing," the notice of hearing states.

The college has alleged the nurse bought the patient a phone, drove the patient around in her car, allowed the patient to spend the night at her house, and spent the night with the patient in a Niagara Falls hotel room.

According to the college, in doing these things the nurse committed sexual abuse and engaged in "disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional" conduct.

The allegations against the nurse have not been proven. She will appear before the disciplinary panel in Toronto in February.

The woman worked as a registered practical nurse for 35 years before resigning from the profession in August 2018. The college lists the nurse as currently not entitled to practice.
