Another six new COVID-19 cases in Elgin-Oxford, one in London

Public health officials in Elgin and Oxford counties reported half a dozen new cases of COVID-19 for a second straight day, while officials in London-Middlesex confirmed just one.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said one more person had tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. So far this week, the region has only added six cases total - three Monday, zero Tuesday, and one each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. London and Middlesex County's total case count currently sits at 682.

Three more people have recovered from the virus since Thursday, bringing the area's number of resolved cases to 602. The death toll was unchanged at 57.

Southwestern Public Health continues to see a steady increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases, with six more on Friday. That follows six newly confirmed cases on Thursday and brings the two counties total since the start of the pandemic to 192. Of those, 49 were recorded since Saturday. The majority of the region's active cases are in Aylmer, which approved a mandatory mask bylaw earlier this week.

According to the health unit, two more people previously diagnosed with COVID-19 have recovered, bringing the total resolved cases to 101. The death toll remains at five with no new deaths reported in more than a month.

For the fifth straight day, Ontario has recorded less than 100 new cases of COVID-19.

Public health officials said 88 more people tested positive for the virus on Friday. Twenty-seven of Ontario's 34 health units reported five or fewer new cases - 18 had no new cases at all.

The province's total number of cases stands at 39,897.

The number of recoveries went up by 118 on Friday to 36,024, while the death toll was unchanged at 2,783.

Currently, 66 infected Ontarians are in hospital receiving treatment, with 28 in the intensive care unit.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
