UPDATE: Premier Ford calls emergency meeting with top health officials

Premier Doug Ford convened an emergency meeting with the Health Minister and the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health on Friday.

Rumours of a two-week lockdown have been swirling following Quebec's decision to lockdown the province for 18 days after Christmas.

The talks come while daily COVID-19 numbers in Ontario continue to break records. There were 40 deaths and 2,290 new cases reported on Friday.

While no updates or announcements have been made as of yet, Ford issued a tweet Friday evening stating that talks will continue through the weekend before providing an update on Monday.

"The trends we're seeing throughout Ontario are very concerning." The premier said in a tweet.

On Thursday, the Ontario Hospital Association called for a full lockdown in areas of the province where cases numbered more than 40 per 100,000 residents.

That would include London and the Waterloo Region. Windsor-Essex and Toronto are already in lockdown. Those regions remain unchanged as of Friday afternoon.
