With Ontario under a stay at home order and schools across the province closed in definitely, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) has outlined how its students will learn next week.
The board announced Thursday that remote learning will begin Monday for all grades.
“We are committed to providing all students with a high-quality remote learning experience while schools are closed,” said TVDSB Director of Education Mark Fisher. “No student will be disadvantaged by this interruption to in-person learning.”
According to the board, students will be able to access learning materials on digital platforms Brightspace or Google Classroom. This will allow students to start asynchronous, or independent, learning right away.
For elementary students, Monday will be a day of independent learning while teachers contact parents and guardians and provide information about remote learning. Synchronous, or live and real time, learning will begin on Tuesday.
Secondary school students will stay in their assigned cohorts and begin synchronous learning in the second period on Monday. The week will mark the end of the third quadmester. When the fourth quadmester begins on Monday, April 26, all high school students will take part in remote classes each day.
Students with complex special needs who are registered in specific Special Education classes will have the option of returning to in-person learning on Tuesday, April 20. The board says specialized transportation will be available.
Families that are in need of computing devices are advised to contact their school.
Earlier this week, the Ontario government announced that students would switch to full remote learning after the April break in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
