AUDIO: Criminal defense lawyer breaks down Ontario's COVID policing rules

A strange weekend in Ontario has criminal defense lawyers in the province confused and concerned about the way COVID stay at home orders are being enforced.

At a news conference on Friday, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones announced the province would be granting police the power to stop Ontarians to determine whether they were breaching public health orders.

However, police services in several municipalities said they would not using those powers, before the province changed the rules on Saturday afternoon and said police must have a reason to make those stops.

Anyone found to be violating the order would be facing a $750 fine.

Nick Cake is a defense lawyer in London, who spoke to Blackburn News about the changes and advice he'd have for people who might be stopped under these rules.
