Emergency preparedness exercise to close Harris, Carfrae parks Thursday

Londoners are being told not to be alarmed if they see a large number of first responders in and around Labatt Brewery and Harris Park on Thursday.

London police, the London Fire Department, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, and representatives from the City of London will join brewery staff in an emergency preparedness exercise from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exercise is meant to test parts of the city's emergency planning in the areas of preparedness, response, and recovery.

As part of the activities, Labatt's emergency notification siren will sound for approximately three minutes between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

"Residents living within 2 kilometres of Labatt Brewery will hear the siren," the city said in a statement. "The siren is loud and will be audible to both humans and animals. If you have a pet that is sensitive to loud noises, you may want to ensure your pet is inside and take any extra precautions during the three minutes the alarm sounds."

A large number of emergency response vehicles, support vehicles and first responders, including the fire department hazmat team, will be visible throughout the exercise. Area residents are asked not to call 9-1-1 about the activities as there is no danger to public safety.

The areas around Labatt Brewery, Harris Park, and Carfrae Park will be closed through the five-hour exercise.
