Police in Woodstock have laid various charges against a man who reportedly crashed into two cruisers during a tri-county pursuit.
At around 10 a.m. Friday, Woodstock police say they were called about a suspicious vehicle in the area of Harford Street.
During the investigation, officers put down a spike belt in an attempt to stop the driver from fleeing. During his attempt to avoid the spike belt, the driver ended up hitting a police vehicle.
The man fled the city and entered Oxford County before he was later located near Lake Whittaker Conservation Area on Avon Road in Middlesex County by OPP at around 11:40 a.m.
During this altercation with police, the man again attempted to evade police driving through Middlesex and Elgin counties. About an hour later, OPP say the vehicle stopped abruptly along Dorchester Road near Mapleton Line in Elgin County, which resulted in a second collision this time with an OPP cruiser.
Police say the man and officer were taken to hospital to be assessed, but neither were injured during the crash.
Woodstock police confirmed a 30-year-old Woodstock man faces charges including prohibited operation, driving while suspended, flight from an officer, dangerous operation, two counts of assaulting an officer, use of an unauthorized plate for a vehicle, failing to comply, failing to stop for an accident.
No other details about the incident have been released.
