UPDATE: School bus driver dies after crash near Long Point

The driver of an empty school bus who died after a single-vehicle crash north of Long Point on Monday afternoon has been identified.

According to OPP in Norfolk County, officers responded to the crash along County Road 23 between Concession Roads 3 and 4 at around 4 p.m.

Investigators determined the school bus, which had no children onboard at the time of the crash, veered off the road, entered a ditch and collided with a number of trees.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where they later died.

Early Tuesday evening, OPP identified the driver as 49-year-old Kari-Anne Michelle Wills of Norfolk County.

Sharp Bus Lines issued a statement Tuesday morning identifying the driver as an employee.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of one of our beloved Norfolk county drivers [Monday] evening following a single vehicle collision. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time," Sharp Bus Lines wrote on social media.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team were on scene until early Tuesday morning as part of the an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Anyone who has dash-cam or home security surveillance footage that may help the investigation is urged to call Norfolk County OPP at 519 426-3434.
