With heavy rain set to move into the region Friday night, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is reminding people to steer clear of waterways for the time being.
A cold front packing anywhere from 25 to 45 mm of rain and strong winds is forecast to move across southwestern Ontario late Friday and continue through Saturday. While it isn't expected to cause any serious flooding, the conservation authority notes the ground is saturated and more susceptible to runoff.
"Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses. Stream banks can be slippery and unstable and the water may quickly become fast-moving and higher than normal," the conservation authority said. "Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses.
Flood reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock conservation areas will be utilized to reduce any downstream flooding.
