Residents of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation are being told to boil their water before it is consumed.
A precautionary boil water advisory was issued for the First Nation on Tuesday afternoon. It also applies to residents of the Munsee-Delaware First Nation. A statement from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation says the water is not safe to drink and should be brought to a boil, then allowed to cool, before consumption.
"Any water being used for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, making beverages, washing babies, and washing fruit and vegetables should be boiled for one minute and cooled before use," the statement said. "If anyone in your household drinks the water and becomes ill - seek medical care as soon as possible."
While the order is in effect, residents are being asked to conserve water.
Deliveries of bottled water to affected households were expected to begin Wednesday.
