Over a dozen new COVID-19 cases detected in local public schools

It appears some will, unfortunately, start their winter holidays from school in self-isolation.

Early Friday evening, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases, at 12 London-area public schools.

The cases were reported at:

• Sir Arthur Currie Public School (two cases)

• Algonquin Public School

• East Oxford Central Public School

• Byron Somerset Public School

• Saunders Secondary School

• Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School (three cases)

• River Heights Public School

• A.B. Lucas Secondary School

• Wilberforce Public School

• Stoney Creek Public School

• West Oaks French Immersion Public School (two cases)

• Dunwich-Dutton Public School

No new school closures were announced Friday as students head off for a two-week break for the holidays.

While both the TVDSB and London Catholic District School Board have advised families to have their children bring home all belongings and materials needed for virtual learning, the province has not yet announced if schools will resume with online learning in January.

On Friday, the Doug Ford government announced some changes to indoor gatherings and capacity limits in public spaces. However, Ford said it was too early to confirm if schools will resume in-person learning or online learning methods.

More details about the cases confirmed within the TVDSB can be found on the board's website.
