Provincial police are looking for a fuel thief after holes were drilled into the gas tank of a vehicle parked in Simcoe.
The incident happened sometime between April 29 and Wednesday on Crescent Boulevard.
"Nobody likes the price of gas right now, but stealing it is illegal," Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk posted on social media Thursday. "You would never think that an individual would go underneath your vehicle and drill a hole in your gas tank using a drill. But that’s exactly what happened.”
Sanchuk said the thief made off with a quantity of fuel and cost the owner of the vehicle approximately $1,000 to have the gas tank replaced. In addition to being illegal, Sanchuk added that drilling a hole into a fuel tank is "an extremely dangerous act."
"So we are asking everyone, if you see something suspicious in your community say something," said Sanchuk.
