Terence Kernaghan will have another four years as the MPP for London North-Centre.
He was re-elected on Thursday by nearly 4,000 votes in a race that many prognosticators expected to be closer.
"I knew all along that this was very much a race between the NDP and the PCs," Kernaghan said at his victory party at Wink's in downtown London. "I met so many people, they recognized me, they recognized the work that me and my office have done and they were thankful for me raising my voice. I'm just incredibly honoured."
He was first elected in 2018, becoming the first New Democrat to represent the area since Marion Boyd from 1990-1999.
Kernaghan, whose unofficial vote total in the 2022 race was 16,811, defeated Progressive Conservative Jerry Pribil, who wound up with 12,902 votes. Liberal Kate Graham, who ran and lost in the riding four years ago, finished third with 8,840 votes.
"It's quite overwhelming," Kernaghan said of the result.
He cited affordability and housing as the key conversations in the race and said his campaign connected with voters on those issues.
