Motorcyclist killed in crash near Waterford

A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Waterford.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Cockshutt Road and Thompson Road East just before 7 p.m. on Friday where the motorcycle and a pickup truck collided. According to Norfolk OPP, the bike was headed north on Cockshutt and the truck was travelling on Thompson when the crash occurred.

The motorcycle operator suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. That individual's name and age are not being released until police are able to notify the deceased's family.

The driver of the pickup had to be cut from the wreckage and was taken to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.

This was the second fatal motorcycle collision in Norfolk County this week. On Tuesday night, 52-year-old Christopher Henry Bill of Haldimand County was killed when his motorcycle collided with an SUV at St Johns Road East and Cockshutt Road. A passenger, thrown from the bike, suffered serious injuries. They were airlifted to hospital where their condition has since improved.

In neighbouring Oxford County, a motorcyclist had to be airlifted to hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Tillsonburg Thursday afternoon. The motorcyclist's injuries were described by police as being "life threatening."
