Firefighters rescue dog from $600K house fire

A fire that left $600,000 dollars damage to a home in east London has been deemed suspicious.

Fire crews were called to 35 Tennyson St. near Hamilton Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday. When firefighters arrived flames were shooting out from the back of the single-story home and the siding on the exterior wall was visibly melting.

The family dog, who was still inside the burning home, was rescued by firefighters. The small pup, named Parker, was given oxygen before being taken to an after hours vet clinic. He was conscious and alert when he left the scene, according to fire officials.

No other injuries were reported.

It is believed the fire began on the back deck before spreading to the home.

"The fire was deemed suspicious in nature and the investigation was assigned to members of the London Police Service street crime unit, with the assistance of the London Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal," London police said on Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
