Pride flags stolen, damaged in St. Thomas

For the third straight week, Pride flags in the London region have been damaged and stolen.

St. Thomas police are investigating the latest incident which happened at a home in the south end of the city Tuesday evening.

The homeowner reported one of their flags had been stolen and the other was damaged.

Pride flags erected to mark Pride month have been destroyed and stolen throughout southwestern Ontario. Last week, both Aylmer police and Oxford OPP reported rainbow flags had gone missing or been vandalized in their communities.

In Aylmer, thieves took a Pride flag from the front porch of a Talbot Street home. In Norwich, two people went to a home on Stover Street and removed a Pride flag, damaging the frame it was attached to. These thefts were done under the cover of darkness, police said.

Earlier in the month, multiple Pride flags were snatched from residences on Stover Street, Maple Dell Road, and Norwich Road in Norwich.

The Pride flag represents and supports members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Investigators are reviewing video surveillance of the thefts to try to identify suspects.
