A man accused of impaired driving, resulting in the death of a young boy who was struck near downtown St. Thomas this summer, faces several more charges.
At around 5 p.m. on July 4, 2023, 11-year-old Aidan Curtis and four other pedestrians were walking on a sidewalk in the area of Talbot Street and Caso Crossing when a pickup truck travelling west through the area jumped the curb, and struck all five individuals. A woman was taken to London Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries and three others were treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.
Aidan Curtis died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Nicholas Lemke, 19, was charged with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
On Wednesday, members of the St. Thomas Police Service announced Lemke faces additional charges including two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing death, and impaired operation causing bodily harm.
“[This] is an incident that shook our community. One that will forever leave its mark on our city,” said STPS Corporate Communications Coordinator Samantha Wakefield.
Lemke appeared in court on Tuesday and has since been released with a future court date.
