Adults in the London-area trying to complete their high school education will soon be able to get some on-the-job training that could count toward their diploma.
The Thames Valley District School Board is launching a pilot project that will see an unspecified number of adult learners hired on as temporary custodians.
“This project reflects Thames Valley District School Board’s commitment to increasing graduation rates and preparing learners of all ages and backgrounds for future success,” Director of Education Mark Fisher said in a statement. “It represents one of the many ways we are working as a school board to break down barriers to education.”
Those interested in the temporary custodian positions must be two years or less away from completing their secondary school diplomas. The on-the-job experience and training may be considered towards the credits required to graduate, according to the board.
There is also a chance that individuals who complete the program and receive their diploma could be hired permanently with the school board.
The pilot program will begin in January.
