The time has come for Londoners to dust off their clubs and golf shoes.
London's two city-run golf courses are slated to open for the season this Thursday. Both Thames Valley Golf Course and Fanshawe Golf Course will be taking tee-times as of 10 a.m. Tee-times can be booked and golf passes acquired at london.ca/golf.
“London’s golf courses offer truly spectacular recreation opportunities for all ages,” Mayor Josh Morgan said in a statement. “I hope Londoners take advantage of the upcoming spring season and get those swings in working shape."
This year marks Thames Valley's 100th anniversary. The course was established in 1924. Its 18-hole classic course runs along the Thames River, offering mature tree-lined fairways, while its 9-hole Hickory course has a mixture of par fours and threes with wider fairways and shorter holes popular with beginners, seniors and children.
"I’d also like to wish Thames Valley Golf Course a huge congratulations on 100 years of business," said Morgan. "I know the 18-hole classic course holds great memories for many and the city looks forward to marking this momentous occasion.”
A 100th anniversary celebration for Thames Valley is being planned. Details are expected to be announced later this spring.
The opening of the two golf courses is weather permitting. At this point, it does not look promising. Environment Canada is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain or flurries with a daytime high of plus 4 C.
