Driver charged after motorcycle, bike collide

A crash between a motorcyclist and a bicyclist west of London has left provincial police reminding everyone to share the road.

Middlesex OPP were called to the collision on Oxbow Drive, west of Coldstream Road in Middlesex Centre around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.

The crash slowed traffic in the area while police investigated the cause.

The motorcyclist, a 68-year-old from Middlesex Centre, is charged with failure to turn out to left to avoid a collision with a bicycle.

The return of spring and warm weather is bringing more people outside, including cyclists. Police pointed to this incident as an example of why it is important to share the road.

"Do not pass too closely, give extra room, pass bicyclists as you would any other vehicle and when it's safe to do so, move over into an adjacent lane," police said in a statement issued on Thursday. "A reminder to drivers, remember the one-metre passing law, where drivers must maintain a minimum distance of one metre between their vehicle and the cyclist, where it is practical to do so."

For cyclists, police advise wearing appropriate, high visibility clothing, as well as a helmet. Those cycling at dusk, dawn or overnight, are also being told to equip their bike with a white, front mounted light and a rear, red reflector or light.
