St. Thomas resident charged in assault that sent one to hospital

Charges have been laid in an assault in the west end of St. Thomas that saw one person taken to hospital for treatment.

St. Thomas police were called to the disturbance on Talbot Street near Elgin Street around 10 p.m. on Monday. When officers arrived they found two people suffering from unspecified injuries. Paramedics treated both before taking one of the two to hospital for further medical assistance.

Investigators determined the injuries were the result of an assault that included a noxious substance being sprayed.

A 43-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested in connection with the assault just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. That individual is charged with assault causing bodily harm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, administering a noxious substance, and failure to comply with a probation order. They are to appear in court in relation to the charges on Wednesday morning.

Police did not comment on what type of weapon or noxious substance was involved.
