Snowsqualls Arrive Before Winter

Parts of midwestern Ontario are under the first snow squall watches and warnings of the 2014-15 winter, and winter is technically over a month away.

As of mid-morning, a snow squall warning has been issued for all of Bruce County, including the Bruce Peninsula. A snow squall watch is in effect for all of Grey County, including the Owen Sound area.

In the wake of a cold front that moved across southern Ontario overnight, cold air and a strong westerly wind over the open waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will result in the development of snow squalls later today, and could persist through tonight and into Thursday.  Snowfall amounts of 10-15 cm are possible over the next 24 hours.

Snow squall warnings and Watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could cause accumulating snow or near zero visibility.

Weather conditions can change considerably, from a cloudy sky to heavy snow in just a few kilometers.
