Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority officials are warning of possible higher than normal water levels over the next few days.
Most areas of the ABCA watershed, like most of midwestern Ontario, have seen significant snow accumulations this week.
Now, above freezing temperatures and rainfall are forecast for the weekend and early next week.
The conservation authority notes that, at present, forecasts call for 25-40 mm of rain between Saturday and Tuesday with temperatures approaching 10 C.
ABCA officials say while the snow pack will be able to absorb some precipitation, it's expected that some runoff will occur, causing water levels in streams and rivers to be above normal into the beginning of the week.
With watercourses open and flowing freely at the moment, and based on the current forecast, no significant flooding is expected. However, residents are reminded to use caution near all watercourses as waters may be fast-moving and higher than normal.
Slippery and unstable stream banks will create additional hazards.
