Goderich township Takes De-Amalgamation Quest To Queen's Park

A group of Goderich Township residents and members of the Huron-Perth Landowners Association will head to Queen's Park this morning to witness a ceremony that dates back to 1628.

They believe that ceremony will allow Goderich Township to de-amalgamate from Central Huron.

The actual event will take place in the Legislature shortly after 1pm when Conservative MPP Jack MacLaren, from a rural riding near Ottawa, will present the Petition of Rights to the attorney general on behalf of the Goderich Township residents who wish to de-amalgamate.

Members of the Huron-Perth Landowners Assocation explain the attorney general is required to review the Petition of Right for correctness in its submission, and forward it to the lieutenant governor.

The lieutenant governor will then ask for the attorney general’s advice. The only lawful advice the attorney general should give is to advise the lieutenant governor to issue her "fiat" or agreement, which is superior to statute law, meaning that Goderich Township would be de-amalgamated.
