Huron Kinloss Council Ready for New Term

Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan told councillors last night they were truly a good-functioning council.

Twolan was speaking at the inaugural session at township headquarters in Ripley.

But the mayor predicted there will be four difficult financial years ahead.

Council learned later in the session that it will receive $686,900 from the Ontario Partnership Fund next year compared to $830,900 this year, a decrease of $144,000.

Councillor Lillian Abbott said she hopes some of the big issues -- like the drive to bring natural gas to the area and winning the site selection process for a underground repository for used nuclear fuel -- will come to fruition.
