The Mayor of Huron East says his priority in the new year is to try to reverse the trend of financial cuts to rural Ontario.
Bernie MacLellan maintains the Province is using the reduction in the Ontario Muncipal Partnership Fund to balance its books -- and by doing that, they're robbing small rural communities to help out urban centres.
MacLellan is also concerned about the general lack of a voice for rural Ontario at Queen's Park. He's hoping whoever becomes the new Warden for the county can work with the Western Wardens to form a partnership with their eastern counterparts to take their concerns to the Province.
MacLellan is one of three candidates running for warden of Huron County for next year. The election is Wednesday, December 10.
MacLellan says he'll also ask his council to take another look at the Community Vibrancy Funding that was offered to the municipality a part of the wind energy project in Huron East. Council turned down the offer of 110-thousand dollars a year for twenty years, and he'd to revisit that decision.
