Historical Climatologist Says Climate Change Is A Fact Of Life

A historical climatologist and co-author of the Browning Newsletter says climate change is a fact of life.

James Garriss addressed about 20 members of the Bruce and Huron Federations of Agriculture last night at the Wingham Golf and Country Club.

He states that man-made influence on climate change is only one of many factors; along with volcanic eruptions, the oscillation of ocean currents and solar activity all working together.

Garriss says what we can expect in our area over the next 20-25 years are conditions similar to those in the 50's and 60's. He adds water will no longer be the abundant resource that it was in the 80's and 90's and much of the precipitation we do get will come in intense events.

Garriss adds farmers who prepare will be able to find ways to store rain when it does fall and do well.

Garriss also says the thing most likely to alter that pattern over the next 25 years is an El Nino or La Nina and they can usually be predicted two to three months in advance.
