Meaford residents could be paying about two percent more in taxes this year, according to the most recent version of a draft 2015 budget.
Treasurer Darcy Chapman says the proposed increase of 1.8 per cent is lower than the 2.4 per cent limit requested by council last month. Chapman says the draft reflects staff efforts in delivering a "fiscally responsible" operating budget that is also designed to help the municipality reduce its infrastructure debt.
The committee of the whole voted to receive the draft.
It also approved a schedule of special council meetings on the 2015 budget and a public information session.
The first of these meetings will be held at Stone Tree Golf and Fitness Club 7pm, Monday, January 26.
Meaford will also hold a public meeting at Woodford Hall at 7pm, January 28, and a mandatory public meeting at Meaford Hall at 7pm, February 9.
In dollar terms, the proposed levy increase would cost condo owners an additional $2.15 a month or just under $26 more a year. Owners of single family dwellings would pay $2.87 more a month or just over $34 a year. Owners of seasonal homes would pay an extra $4.22 more a month or about $50 more a year. Owners of waterfront properties would pay about $6.40 a month or almost $77 more a year.
