ACW Council To Allow More Discussion At Meetings

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh council has revised the part of its procedural bylaw that relates to open forums.

Reeve Ben Van Deipenbeek explains council previously allowed an open forum at the conclusion of its council meetings and that involved members of the gallery asking questions and sometimes debating issues with members of council.

"We'll give every speaker five minutes," Diepenbeek tells CKNX News. "They go to the podium, identify themselves and ask any questions about the agenda coming up. Anybody can ask any questions about the adgenda and if they have more than one that's fine."

Van Diepenbeek says the change puts the forum near the beginning of the council meeting, right after the approval of previous minutes.
