South Bruce OPP Remind Motorists of School Bus Laws

Stopping for a school bus with lights flashing is the law in Ontario, but it's a law that some South Bruce drivers are ignoring.

The OPP has received reports of drivers failing to stop for a loading/unloading school bus; most recently at stops along Bruce County Road 20 and stops around the village of Tiverton.

Failing to stop for a school bus carries a fine of $490 and 6 demerit points.

Police note that with full day kindergarten programs being offered, students as young as 4-years-old can travel to and from school on a bus, and they depend on adults to keep them safe. The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
