High Speed Police Pursuit From Owen Sound To Wiarton

Two Owen Sound teens are facing a number of criminal charges after a high-speed police pursuit that started in Owen Sound and ended in Wiarton.

It began Sunday afternoon when an OPP officer spotted a suspected stolen car at a gas bar on 16th St. in Owen Sound. Police watched the driver quickly leave the gas bar, with the gas pump handle still in the filler tube.

The Owen Sound Police Service reported the car leaving the city at a high rate of speed. Grey County OPP and Bruce Peninsula OPP also received reports of the vehicle travelling at very high speeds.

A Bruce Peninsula OPP officer tried to stop the car on Grey Rd. 135, but the suspect vehicle struck the cruiser. There were no injuries and damage was minor. Police later found the vehicle abandoned on Frank St. in Wiarton. Following a foot chase, two people were arrested.

A 19-year-old Owen Sound male has been charged with two counts of driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, theft over $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, flight from police, failing to stop, and possession of ammunition while prohibited.

A 15-year-old has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of failing to comply with a youth order.
